Who we are
Learn More About Meck!
Mecklenburg Community Church, more commonly referred to as “Meck,” all began as a vision from Senior Pastor Jim White and came to fruition in the University Hilton Hotel ballroom on October 4, 1992. Even with Tropical Storm "Earl's" torrential rain, 112 people showed up for that very first service. God continued to show up and by the end of the year, 400 people called Meck their church home. Rapid growth necessitated a relocation to David Cox Road Elementary School in 1993 where attendance quadrupled over the next four years. And Meck has continued to grow, with multiple expansions on our land and building, and with more than 20,000 active attenders through our in-person and online campuses.
Meck is a church physically located in Charlotte, NC and virtually located through our Online Campus. Meck is and has always been dedicated to serving God and others. Here at Meck, we believe church isn’t about religion, but instead a relationship with Jesus. It's a place to come as an explorer, with all of your questions, no matter your past. Whether you are just exploring, ready for something new, or don’t know where to begin, we are here for you.
Through the Years
Meck's Story
Meck was founded
The story of Mecklenburg Community Church (Meck) first began as a vision in the heart and mind of Senior Pastor, Jim White, and then took a step into reality in the University Hilton Hotel ballroom on October 4, 1992.
Through the ups and downs
During these next few years, Meck dealt with a large-scale break-in and robbery, as well as our senior pastor's resignation to become the president of one of the world's largest seminaries. As it turned out, this wasn't exactly what God had in mind (we talked him into repenting). After a few years, our pastor was "back," and Meck was situated with a fresh vision for a new decade.

Time to expand
As a result of incredible generosity through our “Unhindered” campaign, construction began on the main auditorium as well as The Grounds Bookstore and Café and The Grounds Loft. It would take another year for the grand opening of The Grounds. Around this time, the Meck Institute began to develop into a more robust program with more classes and opportunities.

A vision realized
In October of 2017, we launched our fourth Charlotte-area campus, the Rocky River Campus, to make it easier for those in the Concord-Harrisburg areas to invite their unchurched friends, family and coworkers. The vision of the “Let the Children Come” campaign was realized with the expansion of our MecKidz Children’s Ministry classrooms and construction of the Chapel.

Let's get phygital
With the COVID-19 pandemic, we were forced to close our physical doors, causing us to transition solely to our Online Campus. This made us rethink and redevelop how we produced our Online Campus. Throughout this year, Meck became a hybrid church, offering in-person experiences while attending church online. In what can only be considered a blessing in disguise, our “2020 Vision” was realized with over 20,000 people actively attending through our Online Campus. We also developed the Meck Trail stretching almost a mile long through the woods on our property. We offered a Christmas at Meck walk-thru experience where more than 10,000 people walked through our doors to hear the true story of Christmas in a unique and memorable way.

We broke ground
Meck was able to open its first building on what is now the North Charlotte Campus. A second floor providing more space for ministry opened in 1999. Because of tremendous growth, in December of 2000, the "Changing the World" endeavor spurred even more construction, adding the West Atrium in 2001.

Let’s take it global
During this era, Missions 2.0 was established and expanded from local projects to teams being sent throughout the world. A "2020 Vision" was unveiled that cast the vision of being a church of 20,000 active attenders with ministry in 20 countries by the year 2020. In light of this vision, three new campuses were launched, internationally in the United Arab Emirates and locally in Lake Norman and Mountain Island Lake. In terms of our 2020 goals, by the end of this run Meck was approaching 8,000 active attenders with ministry in 11 countries.

Taking off
This 5-year run saw the church expand its reach both here in Charlotte and around the world. Our Missions 2.0 program grew to 15 countries serving the least and the lost and we added thousands more active attenders. The church began to host the annual Church & Culture Conference, reaching hundreds of church leaders across the U.S, and in the U.K. and The Leadership Development Program was created to develop and grow volunteer leaders within the church.

Out with the old, in with the new
In a move that can only be considered prescient, Meck closed our three satellite campuses in the Charlotte area and refocused our efforts into the expansion and growth of our Online Campus. With the long-awaited completion of the outer loop of I-485 in Charlotte, it removed the barrier of distance to attend our North Charlotte Campus. As the digital world became more prominent, the Online Campus became the new “front door” of the church for people to invite others to attend a service.

Embracing the hybrid model
With the reopening of our physical campus, we continued to remain a hybrid church serving the ever-increasing numbers attending online while resuming our high-quality in-person services. We look forward to seeing what the future holds and how the footprint continues to change for both our online and physical campuses.
